Fall Semester is Here!

We hope you are enjoying the Fall Semester and getting settled-in to your classes.  Here are a few things to look for throughout Fall Semester:

Friday, September 3rd – College Choir Sing Fling! (College Choir Kick-off)  We will have a free dinner at 6pm in Room N108 and we will then enjoy at time of worship/singing afterwards.  We’ll go through several new songs and kick-off our semester of college choir.

Thursday, September 16th – Girls Night Out! Jenn will be treating the girls to a night out…check back for more details.

College Venture – Friday-Sunday (October 29-31). This is our big college weekend in the Fall Semester.  College students will be split up into co-ed groups of about 10-11 and placed in various homes within the church.  We will be going through C.J. Mahaney’s book The Cross Centered Life that weekend and you will not only have ample small group discussions, but you will also interact with several families within the church.  This is a dynamic weekend and one that will only help you get more grounded in the Word and connected with others at Lakeview.  The cost is $20 and it includes a copy of C.J. Mahaney’s book.

Ministry Opportunities

At Lakeview, we have many ministry opportunities.  Here are  a few of them:

1.  In His Hands (Ministry for children with special needs) — Come be a buddy for a special needs child!  Buddies are needed in the 9:15 and 10:45 hour on Sunday mornings.  You would join a team and be able to serve on a 4 – 6 week rotation (or more frequently if desired).  Your service allows parents to attend a Bible study class or morning worship service.  For more information, please contact Carrie Fellows at: auburntiger7@netzero.com

2.  GAP Prayer Ministry – Sign up to pray for 1 hour (or more) per week.  We have a separate room at the church — which has a coded entry only from the exterior of the church building — and you can enter it and spend time in petition and intercessory prayer.  For more information, please contact Hal Cooper at: hcooper@lakeviewbaptist.org

3.  Nursery — Our Sunday morning and evening nursery is always in need of college students to help with the children.  You will find this to be a blessing as you get to interact with these children and their families.

4.  Food Pantry -Every Monday (from 9-11am) Lakeview hosts a food pantry in the first floor lobby of the church.  Help is always needed to minister to those who are in need.  Also, strong backs are always needed to help carry the food & supplies to the cars of those who have arrived in need of assistance.  If you are interested, please contact Pam Baginski at gneissrock@charter.net

5.  Carpenters for Christ (C4C) – There are several short-term/weekend trips available throughout the year for any men in the church; however, C4C takes a week-long trip every year in May to a church that is in need of a renovation or a new building.  Even if you’ve never swung a hammer, there is work you can do!  Our most recent C4C took place in New Market, TN where 10 college students joined 86 other men for a week of construction and ministering to the people in New Market.  Contact Curtis for more information: cblack@lakeviewbaptist.org

Weekly Schedule

Holding to Ephesians 4:12, we seek to equip students to do the work of ministry, to the building up of the body of Christ.  We hope you will avail yourself to one or some of the equipping opportunities within the college ministry:

SUNDAYS
9:15am – CollegeLife Bible Study meets at 9:15am in the Fellowship Hall.  We have a time of musical worship and then we study and discuss the Bible in small group settings.  We’ll be journeying through the book of Matthew this Fall ’10 and Spring ’11.

10:45am – Corporate worship service in the Worship Center.  This is a corporate gathering of believers (of all ages) where we have a time of musical worship and preaching from the Word.

5:00pm – Starting Fall semester, our Collegiate Singers (College Choir) will practice in room N107 on Sunday afternoons at 5pm.

6:15pm – Corporate worship service in the Worship Center (the 6:15pm service is not a repeat of the 10:45am service).



MONDAYS
Summer Men’s Bible Study -This Bible study meets on Monday nights at 8pm in Room N107 at the church throughout the Summer.  We are currently using Mark Dever’s book “It is Well” to study Biblical passages that deal with substitutionary atonement (ex. 2 Corinthians 5:21).  Every other week we combine with the Ladies’ Bible study, after our Bible study time, for a time of fellowship.

Summer Ladies’ Bible Study – This Bible study meets on Monday nights at 8pm at Jenn Stinnett’s house throughout the Summer (Email: jennstinn@gmail.com for directions).  We are currently going through the book “Lies Women Believe” by Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

Freshmen Men’s Bible Study – During the Fall & Spring semesters, freshmen guys will meet at 8pm in Room N109 at the church and journey through the book of Acts.  You’ll not only get to know fellow freshmen guys, but you’ll also get to know some of the older college guys who will be teaching from time-to-time.  Contact Curtis for more details: cblack@lakeviewbaptist.org

College Men’s Bible Study – This Bible study is for all college men not involved in the freshmen men’s Bible study.  Starting in the Fall, we will meet at 8pm in Room N106 at the church.

Freshmen Girls’ Bible Study – During the Fall & Spring semesters, freshmen girls will meet at 8pm at Toma Knight’s house (Email: knight7au@yahoo.com for directions).

College Girls’ Bible Study – Taught by Jenn Stinnett (College Women’s Director), this Bible study is for all ladies not involved in the freshmen girls Bible study.  It meets at 8pm in Room N107 at the church (Fall & Spring Semesters).

Engaged Girls’ Bible Study – Taught by Marcia McVay, this is a Bible study for any ladies who are currently engaged.  This Bible study will meet at 7pm on Monday nights (starting Fall semester).  Please contact Marcia for more information: mcvayfam@bellsouth.net

WEDNESDAYS

Corporate Prayer @ 6:30pm – For the Summer, the college ministry has combined with the church-wide prayer service on Wednesday nights.  Come join us as we intercede for others and worship the Lord during our time of prayer.

CBS @ 8pm on Wednesdays – CBS is our mid-week college Bible study during Fall and Spring semesters.  CBS features a time of worship (in music and in the Word) and fellowship.  We meet in the fellowship hall of Lakeview Baptist Church at 8pm on Wednesday nights

We have many Bible study opportunities available throughout the year:

Co-ed:

• CBS (College Bible Study) – Wednesdays @ 8pm in the Fellowship Hall (Fall & Spring Semester).

• Engaged Girls Bible Study – Monday nights @ 7pm (Fall & Spring Semester)

Men:

• Freshmen Men’s Bible Study – Monday nights @ 8pm (Fall & Spring Semester) in Room N109 at the church.
• College Men’s Bible Study – Monday nights @ 8pm (year-round) in Room N106 at the church.
